Why do people think football is overrated?

I don't see why people think that football is overrated. Saying that football is "your team," is just showing your confidence, pride, and love for the sport and for the team. Although people don't like certain teams depending on where they live, it adds an element of competition between people even though they aren't the people playing the game. Football is more than "just a sport," it is something that people create as part of your lifestyle.
